2005 Maryland Collegiate Honors Council Conference Conference Program Friday, March 4, 2005 Leadership for Change The MCHC Conference will be held in Poes Publick House, in the basement of the John and Frances Angelos Law Center at the intersection of Mount Royal Avenue and Maryland Avenue in downtown Baltimore.
This years program will feature a kickoff discussion of honors programs as a crucible for academic leadership, reports of honors opportunities beyond the classroom at Hood College and St. Marys College, and presentations by all the Portz nominees from public and private institutions throughout the state. Students are also warmly encouraged to bring posters to display. Poster set-up space will be available beginning at 7:30 a.m., and the conference will run from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Provisional Schedule
8:00-9:00: Coffee and conversation/poster display 9:00-9:05 Welcome and presentation of 2004 Portz awards 9:05-9:45 Presentations by 2004 Portz award winners Jordan Nichols, Worwic Community College Dorothy Berting, University of Baltimore 9:45-10:30 “Leadership in Learning: The Hood College Coastal Studies Semester” Ron Albaugh, Hood College, and students 10:30-10:45: Coffee break/poster display 10:45-11:30: “Resistance to Evil as Moral Leadership” Michael Taber, St. Mary’s College of Maryland, and students 11:30-12:15 Buffet lunch/poster display 12:15-1:15 Presentations by 2005 Portz award candidates 1:15-2:00 Keynote address: “Leadership for Change” Wim Wiewel, Provost, University of Baltimore Panel of respondents: Michael Taber, St. Mary’s College of Maryland Charles Ritter, College of Notre Dame of Maryland Maureen Connelly, Frostburg State University 2:00-3:00 General membership meeting -- election of MCHC Executive Board members
